On 30 Sep 2004, Jackie Stewart, who is the president of British Racing Drivers' Club, made an announcement that the famous British Grand Prix wouldn't be included on the provisional race calendar of 2005 and, if it were to be included, would probably not take place at Silverstone. But on 9 Dec, an agreement was reached with Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One right holder, making sure the track hosted the British Grand Prix till 2009. Donington Park became the host. However, the leaseholders of Donington Park suffered economic problems that resulted in the British Racing Drivers' Club signing a deal for 17 years with Ecclestone to hold the race at Silverstone.
The lap of Lewis Hamilton, which was 1:30.621 in the British Grand Prix that occurred in 2017, is the lap record for the present Grand Prix configuration; it has been in existence from 2011. Official lap records are typically set in a race, but qualifying laps are usually faster.Additionally, Silverstone hosts numerous club racing series plus the largest historic annual three-day car and race meeting in the world, the Silverstone Classic. The Silverstone Classic was founded in 1990; it's one of the first-ever motorsport meetings dedicated solely to historic racing cars. Silverstone is also home to one of the only 24-hour car races in the UK, the Britcar 24. Lots of big-name teams have participated in Britcar 24 such as Duller Motorsport, Jet Alliance Motorsport and Rollcentre Racing. As of the 2016 race, Rollcentre Racing and Duller Motorsport are the only teams that won the event more than once.
